My Internship

I have yet to sit down and discuss the progress of my internship.

So I decided I'd do it today.

I was hired about 2 months ago with the help of my grandpa's old friend at the Commonwealth Business Council for an internship position. They put me in the Findajobinafrica department where I was in a nutshell working for people who helped the African diaspora find a job back in their Mother land.

Its been going fine. I've learned so much and have definitely enjoyed my work experience there. But it made me realize that you can't run away from office politics (or politics in general). And it seems, in Africa, its BAD. Here again, I will stress to those who think they have it bad where they are, that you probably don't. Okay maybe you do but think again; does your house have electricity for half an hour once a month? Do you earn 150 pounds a month to support a wife and 4 kids?

Its not that easy living life, I know. Especially if you want to live the so-called "life" where its all luxurious and shit. I mean, a lot of politicians in Africa were just showered with this wealth and most of them sadly, sent a lot of the money somewhere (only Lord knows where) instead of building the infrastructure that is needed for their people.

But do we call them bad people?

No. How can we if they never knew any better of the concept of wealth and power? How can one know what is given to them might poison their mind if their life was once so impoverish? Why would you want to give it up no? After all, we're only human. And once given all the wealth and comfort, we are in such fear of losing it that we are willing to take away what others should be given.

Now that, is the problem. The fear of losing what is given. It stops us from giving don't you think? I think that is a flaw we all have and we need to reduce it.

Billions of dollars have been given to Africa for decades and yet, things are still, so far behind. What is wrong? One could google the umpteen articles that try to resolve the 'problem' with Africa. But honestly, there is no problem with Africa. It is a land rich with resources.

But it is the people that fuck it up. I am not just talking about African people. I am talking about all people who willingly take what they want but refuse to give anything back. If the westerners can come to Africa and take their diamonds, why not introduce some fucking infrastructure as well eh? What, are you afraid that if you give them infrastructure they'd decide to up the price of the diamonds or something of the sort? So instead you let them live in poverty while you take what came from their land?

Humans need to stop and realize that for fuck's sake; we should not be afraid of losing something as we will ultimately lose it all in the end. WE DIE.

And when you die, your diamond necklaces, Prada bags, Blackberries and Hamptons house are not going to be buried with you. So why try to obtain these possessions to begin with? I am not saying we shouldn't own these 'beautiful' things but let's sit down for one second and think; how much do you really need? And then ask yourself; are there other people who might be in need of the 10 bags that I own?

So this is what my internship has taught me. That what is given to us should also be dispersed to those who have nothing at all. Be it through donations, welfare, building infrastructures, or just giving them a helping hand, we should not sit back and watch, but like Nike says "Just do it".
