Music : Finger Lickin' Good

I love music. I find that different songs have the power to change my mind, mood and feelings. I love it. The kind of music I like to listen to really can't be put into just one genre.

One could say I like ALL genres. You should know by now I like keroncong. I also LOVE gamelan. And then suddenly I could listen to rock. I think I like all rock music. Be it Hardcore, Alternative, Punk, Post-Rock, Emo etc. Seriously, I am pretty much open to anything.

And then of course. HOUSE. This is yeah. Definetly on my top 10 list of favourite genres.

House Music! One of the best things that ever happened to me. My favourite DJs would have to be Bob Sinclair, Armand Van Helden, Roger Sanchez, Robert Owens, Jesse Saunders, Dimitri from Paris! and lots more. Oh house music, I thank the Lord for bringing it down to us. It's truly fucking amazing.

Besides House, Jazz (ANY KIND) would also be in my top 10. I don't know why I just love Jazz. Especially the older stuff like the Big Band Era. Some personal favourites are Fats Waller, Bunny Berrigan, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Art Tatum, and the list could go longer. A LOT longer.

Then there's Ambiance music. Trip Hop. Good shit I must say.

I'm looking at my Winamp Playlist and I see that my "Nazzy Likes To Sleep With This" playlist is varied from hawaiian feel to jazz to R&B to gamelan to sufi music to trip hop to classical to african beats. Wow Naz. You DO like range. Hehe.

HipHop. Not ENTIRELY fond of. But I can't lie I enjoy it. I mean, hey! It's good grinding music isn't it? Haha. Although, I can't stand the fact that clubs in Victoria MOSTLY play God Damn Hiphop or like they say TOP 40s. Is Hiphop the ONLY thing on the list?

Indie. I have a special paragraph for you. Why? Well, somehow Indie music inspires me to write my script. I'd sit in front of my laptop cranking some Stars, Apostle of Hustle, Minus the Bears, Couple, Snow Patrol etc. and write away my story. I love it.

Italian Opera. Chinese Opera. YES I LIKE THE OPERA. Reminds me of the past. Not that i've been alive that long. But I definetly appreciate the Opera.

Oh yeah! PUTUMAYO. Have you guys heard of them? They're motto is something like "Guranteed to make you feel good". Hell yeah it does. It's like a record company that makes a compilation of music from all over the world from different artists. They have albums called Music from the Tea Lands, Music from the Coffee Lands, Brazillian Groove etc. I have yet to collect ALL of them but I definetly have a damn good collection. Guranteed to make me feel good.

I especially have to dedicate a paragraph to Bossanova. Oh man, I love it so much. Makes me want to be Brazillian! Sergio Mendez, Cartola, Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, Ono Lisa, Jose Briamonte and many more. Hehe. And in this paragraph I'd like to include Cuban as well. Ho yeah. Buena Vista Social Club. SO GOOD. Some of my favourites are Tito Puente and of course, Ibrahim Ferrer R.I.P. My favourite song from him was Bruca Manigua. Oh man, I'm listening to it right now. FANTABULOUS.

How can I forget Reggae? Yeah Bob Marley! hehe. I love Jamaican music too. Don't really know too much of it. I mean the minute I think Reggae its Bob Marley that pops into my head. I guess it wouldn't be fair to other Reggae artists. Maybe I could be reccomended of some.

Classical! Personal favourites are Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, and Offenbach.

Pop? Well, I mean, who doesn't listen to Pop? These days everything IS POP if you belong to the Pop culture. And what doesn't belong to the pop culture if its being consumed by the mass? Hmm? Like Britney Spears? HEY I think she's got SOME talent. Her music is always catchy. And then Christina Aguilera, her arch enemy. She has a better voice for sure. But she doesn't appeal to me more than Britney. Hehe. Justin Timberlake. I hate him with a passion. But I can't lie his music is pretty darn catchy. Gah!

RnB! This is good fuck music. LITERALLY. haha. I mean listen to the lyrics! hehehe. that tickles me.

Oh and ANY artist from the 50s, 60s, 70s eras are definetly something I can appreciate. Especially the 60s and 70s. 50s were good but they were a little too clean for me. Hehe.

80s! an era I USED TO HATE SO MUCH! really, the fashion was horrendous. I mean SOME were cool but the shoulder pads? I have broad shoulders for a girl already so NO WAY I would have embraced that fashion unless I was interested in playing American Football. But the music? Well, I have grown to appreciate it quite a bit since I came to Canada. It seems a lot of people here still likes the 80s. God knows why. Like the movie Napoleon Dynamite. If you're stuck in a small town chances are you like 80s music. hehe.

But then, truly, what era do I belong to? THE 90s BABY! Granted, the fashion of the 90s was erm, lazy? I mean baggy pants and and baggy t shirts? Hello? But I cannot judge the 90s cause this is the time where I grew up. And I love it. Enough said.

Out of my 6575 (and counting) songs I could probably conclude to say that although its only 6000+ my range of music is most definetly wide. See, I have favourite artists. But, I prefer concentrating on genres. That way you get every section of every kind of music. I mean, if you know how to appreciate it, you learn more about other cultures and learn their history of how that kind of music came to be. Music has the power to unite or change people's perspectives. Well, THATS IF you take it as seriously as I do. Hehe.

I can't wait to live all over the world and learn about other cultures. It will be fantastic. For now, university is where its at.

Ciao!
