Things I Remember This November

I can't believe it's already November.

In a couple of weeks (if God willing) I'll be leaving my 21st and entering my 22nd year in this world.

I can't believe time has flown by so fast.

I mean, I can still remember how excited I was about my 8th birthday and my 15th birthday and my 20th birthday and my 21st birthday...

That was ages ago.

I still can't believe I won't be 21 anymore.

I think being 21 is the perfect age. You're old enough to vote. Old enough to drink in the States. Old enough to do anything really.

Like to me 21 is like, not too young and not too old.

Everytime someone asked me how old I was this year I'd answer with a happy smirk on my face "I'm 21" and call me a bitch but at the back of my mind I was like,"....don't you just wish you were my age?"

Hehe.

Of course, so many people who are over 21 would say life has not begun yet for me.

I agree.

I think in life we go through periods.

We have the baby period where you are the most eager to learn. You are the most curious thing ever. You eat food that's mashed up because you have no teeth. Your parents had to take care of you extra special because they wanted you to become the best of what you would grow up to be.

Then there's the little kid period which is ages 3-6. I call it 'little kid' because to me you only get 'kid' status when u turn 7 and above. So anyways, little kid? Well, you still are curious (because you're human) but also you start to be more independent because you might have started pre school or if you haven't you'd have the curiosity of school so you might even pretend to go to school cos it seemed like it was the in thing to do. Of course you're not completely independent but definitely more than you were when you were a baby. In fact, you start telling your parents you want to do everything yourself even though most times, you still can't. Hehe.

And then you turn into a kid (ages 7-10). And you enter primary school. And this period becomes like an adventure to you. You have more friends than you did when you were in the little kid period and you become accustomed to the world of academia. You discover some bad words (although these days kids discover it way earlier than your kid period) and start using it. You probably also get punished more because you become a little less obedient and you start developing little crushes on your classmates.

Then there's the preteen period which would be age 11-13. Hello puberty. Everything seems awkwardly wrong with you. Especially your body. You seem to experience some strange sensations here and there due to your hormones. And the best part is you're about to enter high school and damn, you sure as hell can't wait. And when you enter high school, everything seems so freakin' cool to you. And making friends becomes more of a priority somehow. You might even try smoking at this age. You pretty much also might have your first boyfriend/girlfriend during this period.

When you hit the teen period, life seems good. You start going to social gatherings like Gigs and Tea Parties and Clubs. High school is still a place to learn but friends become a top priority to you but the same time it always seems like its all about you because you don't know where to fit in in society. You become curious to find yourself an image. Sometimes your parents will disapprove with the things you do and that's when you get even more upset and rebel by doing silly things like smoking, taking drugs, drinking alcohol and having sex. You can also be pretty whiny.

By the late teen period (18-19 years), you would look back at your juniors in high school and use that lovely phrase "that is so high school". You would have started college or university and you're welcomed to a brand new environment. You still want to party and have fun. But at the same time you really start to think about your future and what you want to be. You think to yourself that perhaps you have found yourself. Then when you're about to hit 20 you realize, no, you haven't found yourself.

The early twenties period (ages 20-24) is pretty good too. You feel like you're really an adult now and you would have probably worked a few jobs here and there. Your parents start to rely on you more. You still want to have fun but some of you might even think of marriage already and when you think of those people you think they're crazy because you think "hey! we're still young". You might have graduated from university or college and realize that whatever you did in uni has nothing to do with what you want to do or what you are working as now. And then that's where you realize you still haven't found yourself.

***

I don't know what the later periods would be like cos currently I am still at the early twenties period. But I have a feeling the periods to come will have different experiences and opportunities which is why we must always cherish every single period in life because each period only comes once.

And with that I will be celebrating my 22nd birthday like a kid.

A & W style!

Wanna come?
